This course meets the professional needs of teachers in further and adult education and training institutions. This is a 45-credit qualification consisting of 2 modules.
Module 1 (30 credits at Levels 4 and 5) - Approaches to literacy and ESOL learning and teaching
Module 2 (15 credits at Level 5) - Theories and frameworks for ESOL learning and teaching
Course content:
- Identifying principles of ESOL learning, teaching, assessment and evaluation
- Communication and interpersonal skills
- Awareness of the role and responsibilities as an ESOL teacher
- Adopting an integrated approach to the theory and practice of ESOL teaching
- Reflecting on previous/current levels of experience, practice and skills
After this course: After successful completion of this course, learners will be eligible to apply for QTLS (Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills) status awarded by the Institute for Learning or continue with their ESOL studies.
This course is appropriate for ESOL teachers who hold an appropriate teaching qualification to teach in FE (or are in the process of completing it) and are in a full teaching role.
