This course is intended for candidates who have acquired the CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (or its prior learning equivalent) and wish to continue to develop their understanding and skills.
Course content:
- Establish and maintain an appropriate framework for independent practice
- Develop proficiency to work with clients presenting with common mental health problems
- Work with the counselling relationship
- Develop proficiency in one particular counselling approach
- Facilitate understanding of working in health settings
Please note: Learners are assessed by their portfolio work which will include reflective learning reviews, case presentation and an externally assessed case review (3 000 - 3 500 words).
After this course: Further training in counselling psychotherapy and counselling supervision. The Open University provides further training routes with credits for CPCAB qualifications at Levels 4 and 5. Employment opportunites in counselling related settings.
CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (TCL4) or its APL and/APEL equivalent (minimum of 420 guided learning hours) in addition to appropriate pre-TCL4 training.
Candidates need to have completed a minimum of 40 hours of personal counselling by the end of the course, (this can include hours undertaken prior to the course but at least 10 hours will be undertaken during the training).
Client work requirements:
A minimum of 60 hours formally-contracted counselling (one-to-one) including client assessment.
Supervision requirements:
Supervision in the form of either group or one-to-one supervision, to meet BACP minimum requirements.
