CELTA is an initial qualification in English language teaching and is suitable for people who have little or no teaching experience. It is an initial teacher training course where learners will achieve an ESOL teaching training qualification approved by DIUS, the British Council and ARELS.
Course content:
- English language teaching methodology
- English grammar
- Developing resources
- Principles of teaching in a Further Education context
After this course:
DTLSS leading to fully qualified teacher status, for those wishing to work in Further Education. Cambridge DELTA for those wishing to teach in language schools or abroad. Employment in ESOL teaching in further and adult education, or in the private sector in the UK or abroad.
Level 3 qualifications (equivalent to A level). Applicants without these qualifications may be considered if they can demonstrate that they have the appropriate skills and ability to study at university level.
Both native and non-native speakers of English may apply and will require English skills equivalent to A level or Cambridge Proficiency Grade A or B.
You must be able to demonstrate some language awareness and an appreciation of the needs of asylum seekers and refugees.
You will be asked to take a written assessment.
