The Customer Service Apprenticeship programme at Level 2 is primarily aimed at candidates who undertake a customer service role and recognises that employment in the customer service sector involves a diverse range of functions, tasks and activities that are constantly developing and changing.

It is suitable for employees who have particular customer service and administrative job roles, are working in a customer service environment and/or provide service to external customers as part of their job role.

The greater part of the Apprenticeship is spent in the workplace. Time is also spent in college, studying towards a nationally recognised qualification.

Course content:

As part of your Apprenticeship, you will complete a number of mandatory units, including:

  • Communicate using customer service language
  • Follow the rules to deliver customer service

You will also choose from a range of optional units:

  • Give customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
  • Deliver reliable customer services
  • Resolve customer service problems
  • Support customer service improvements

All apprentices will complete a Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Customer Service and follow a functional skills programme of Maths and English.

You will also undertake Employment Rights & Responsibilities, Personal Learning & Thinking Skills elements and a technical certificate (covering theoretical concepts, knowledge and understanding) as part of the framework.

To achieve the framework:

Your progress will be continually assessed through a series of written and practical activities. There will be an element of external testing.

After this course:

Once you have completed the Apprenticeship, you can apply for job roles such as Customer Support Agent, Customer Support Office, Delivery Co-ordinator, Customer Services Operator or Customer Service Relations Officer. On successful completion of the programme, students can progress to the Advanced Apprenticeship in Customer Services Level 3.

Funding Support:

Apprenticeships for those aged under 19 are fully funded. Apprenticeships for those over this age are part funded, with employers expected to make a part or full contribution.

Employer Contribution:

Information on the required employer contribution is available on request.

Entry age: 16+.

All candidates need to have attained employment, and be working for a minimum of 30 hours per week under a contract of employment.

There is a minimum literacy and numeracy requirement which will be assessed prior to enrolment.

An Employer Agreement is needed as this is a work-based qualification. Your offer is also subject to a successful interview.
