This course develops CBT skills and theory and combines workplace learning and academic study at a level required by employers.

Learners develop proficiency as Cognitive Behavioural Therapists at a placement agency or workplace, under clinical supervision.

Course content:

  • Group training supervision
  • Own supervision arrangements for external work (as per BACP/BABCP minimum requirements)
  • Theory Seminars with experiential work
  • Skills practice
  • Case study presentation.

Please note: Learners are assessed by their portfolio work which will include reflective learning reviews, case presentation and an externally assessed case review (3,000 - 3,500 words).

After this course:  Further training in counselling and psychotherapy and work towards professional accreditation with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy BACP. The Open University provides further training routes with credits for CPCAB qualifications at Levels 4 and 5.

Employment opportunites in counselling related settings.
 

Level 4 CPCAB Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (TCL4) or its APEL equivalent.

Learners must also be in an appropriate setting that would support working with at least 3 clients (aged 16 or over) using the CBT model under clinical supervision.
